In Kathy Griffin’s new book, “Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index,” she shares a story of a “daytime talk show host” that has a “mean streak that everyone knows about.” The comedian later confirmed she was referring to Ellen DeGeneres.
Griffin went as far as to suggest that DeGeneres kicked her out of a backstage dressing room at the Emmys.
“I can’t prove it,” Griffin said. “I heard she got me kicked out.”
The 56-year-old also claims DeGeneres “banned” her from her daytime talk show in 2006. Griffin explained she wished there was more of a comradery between female comics.
“My issue with Ellen is simple,” she said. “You know, the guys in comedy are so good about sticking together. I feel sad that women don’t support each other the way the guys do. Joan [Rivers] and I would talk about this all the time. Patriarchy pits us against each other.”
Griffin hinted that the younger generation of female comics is changing for the better.
“You look at the younger women like Amy Schumer and Lena Dunham, they’ve got production companies, and they’re getting stuff done.”
